Zehra Karakaş Announces Candidacy for İTO Assembly Membership on the 68th Committee

Bringing the Voice of Industry to the İTO Assembly

Zehra Karakaş Delivers a Strong Message for the 68th Committee

Zehra Karakaş, candidate for Assembly membership of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) 68th Plastics and Rubber Committee, brought industry representatives together in Ataköy. The meeting highlighted collective decision-making, stronger communication, women's representation in business, and the goal of finding solutions to the challenges facing the sector, under the motto “Not Me, but Us.”

In business, success is measured by more than production alone. It also means making the voices of producers heard, bringing problems to the right platforms, and taking responsibility for shaping a shared future.

The gathering organized by Zehra Karakaş, candidate for Assembly membership of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO) 68th Plastics and Rubber Committee, was built around this understanding.

Held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Romu Ristorante in Ataköy, the meeting provided an opportunity for Karakaş to explain her reasons for running. She outlined her aim of bringing industry representatives together, establishing common ground for their expectations, and making committee activities more participatory. She also introduced her fellow committee members, emphasizing the importance of working together.

More Than a Candidacy: Giving Producers a Voice

The plastics and rubber industry plays an important role in production, employment, raw material costs, and competitiveness. For businesses in the sector, the challenge is not simply to identify problems, but to ensure that those problems reach decision-makers and that solutions are pursued through sustained engagement with industry members.

This need lies at the heart of Zehra Karakaş's candidacy.

As Chairwoman of the Board of HANTEK KALIP Plastik, Karakaş aims to bring the expectations of committee members together on a common platform. Her approach focuses on creating an environment where the entire sector can have a voice, rather than allowing the conversation to revolve around a single individual.

When a producer's difficulties remain confined to an individual business, opportunities for solutions may be limited. When similar concerns are brought forward collectively to the appropriate institutions, however, new possibilities for action can emerge.

The sector needs not only representation, but representation that delivers meaningful engagement and results.

“Not Me, but Us”: Collective Wisdom and Continuous Communication

The motto “Not Me, but Us,” featured in the meeting invitation, captured the central message of the gathering.

The stated objectives included giving participants an opportunity to share their concerns and expectations, encouraging collective decision-making within the committee, and strengthening professional connections across the sector. The idea of establishing an ongoing association or platform to maintain communication beyond the election period was also highlighted.

This approach points toward a communication model that could continue after the elections. The expectations of industry representatives are not limited to the weeks before a vote. Businesses face changing circumstances every day, from rising costs and production challenges to competition and commercial relationships.

Effective representation, therefore, should extend beyond messages delivered in a meeting room. It requires gathering feedback from the field, identifying priorities, and bringing the sector's concerns to the relevant institutions.

The real test of Karakaş's candidacy will be how effectively these goals translate into action: listening to the industry, turning shared concerns into concrete priorities, and following up on them.

Women's Success in Business Must Be Matched by Stronger Representation

Women's participation in business is about more than equal opportunity. It also enables entrepreneurship, management, production, and decision-making to benefit from a broader range of talent and experience.

Increasing women's visibility in economic life is important, as is ensuring that they take active roles in professional organizations and decision-making bodies.

Karakaş's candidacy for the 68th Committee also creates an opportunity to consider the role and representation of women entrepreneurs in the business community.

The issue is not simply that a woman is standing as a candidate. More importantly, it is about creating opportunities for people who understand their businesses, accept responsibility, recognize the needs of their industries, and are prepared to work toward solutions.

Equal opportunity means more than opening the door to everyone; it means enabling qualified people to walk through that door and participate in decision-making.

For women's achievements in business to create a lasting impact, their experience and recommendations must be heard and considered in decision-making processes. Stronger representation of women in chambers of commerce, professional committees, and industry organizations is therefore important for the future of economic life.

Strong Candidacies Are Measured by Responsibilities After the Election

Before İTO elections, candidates' objectives provide an important basis for industry representatives to assess their expectations. Yet the true value of representation becomes clear through the work carried out after the election.

Listening to members, understanding the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthening communication across the sector, and following up on unresolved issues are among the fundamental elements of effective committee work.

Whether Karakaş's approach gains lasting support within the sector will also depend on how successfully these objectives are put into practice.

The business community needs representatives who do more than speak: people who listen; who do more than make promises: people who follow through; and who communicate not only with their immediate circles but also with businesses of different sizes.

One individual may not be able to resolve every challenge facing an industry. However, a representative who asks the right questions, encourages collective thinking, and consistently pursues solutions can play an important role in that process.

Business Networking Meets Gastronomy at Romu Ristorante

We also conducted an interview with Damla Dadgar, founder and owner of Romu Ristorante, which hosted the gathering.

Dadgar said that pizza and pasta dishes are among the restaurant's most popular offerings. The menu combines familiar favorites with distinctive options prepared using a variety of ingredients.

Highlights include BBQ chicken, slow-cooked beef rib, mixed mushroom, and spicy shrimp pizzas, alongside Margherita, pepperoni, and beef carpaccio varieties.

Gatherings that bring people from different industries together demonstrate that business communication is not limited to formal meetings. Commercial relationships, professional knowledge-sharing, and new business connections can also develop in social settings where people have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas.

The Future of the Sector Depends on Turning Words into Action

As the İTO elections scheduled for October 27, 2026, approach, the candidacy process for the 68th Plastics and Rubber Committee brings an important question back into focus: How should the sector be represented?

Karakaş's “Not Me, but Us” approach emphasizes collective wisdom, continuous communication, and the goal of bringing the industry's expectations to the attention of decision-makers.

Stronger representation of women's achievements in business, ensuring that producers' voices are heard, and seeking solutions to the challenges facing enterprises are not the concerns of a single candidate alone. They are shared issues for the entire sector.

The decisive question now is how this approach will translate into a working model after the election.

Ultimately, when it comes to the future of production, meaningful representation is not simply about making promises. It is about listening, pursuing solutions, and standing by one's commitments.

2026-A Historic Night by the Of Hayrat Association

A Grand 600-Guest Gathering of Loyalty and Gratitude at Raffles Istanbul

Politics, Academia, and Bureaucracy Convene, A Magnificent Show of Unity by the Of Hayrat Association

The Centennıal Plane Tree Of Hayrat Assocıatıon Hosts An Unforgettable Nıght: A Lesson In "Loyalty And Gratıtude" From 8 Panelısts

Of Hayrat Association, which has grown with unbreakable bonds since 1967 and become a centennial plane tree of the Black Sea region, renewed its deeply rooted history and civil society memory with a magnificent "Night of Loyalty and Gratitude." Bringing together 8 distinguished panelists who have laid the foundation of the association's culture, the event highlighted that loyalty is not just a word, but the most honorable way to build the future by respecting the past. Sharing a common love for their hometown, brotherhood, and a sense of belonging, the panelists declared once again that the sentiment of gratitude is the heart of the association, saying, "Those who forget their past can never flourish in their future; every effort spent and every drop of sweat shed under this roof is our greatest sacred value."

Underscoring the dedication of generations who gathered around the same ideal in this noble tradition spanning over half a century, the speakers shouted with one voice from the Of Hayrat podium: "We do not just carry this torch lit in 1967; we protect the excitement of that first day and the legacy of our elders who guided us at the cost of our lives." These meaningful speeches, which caused emotional moments in the hall, showed the whole world once again that the association is an unshakable family, an unquenchable hearth, and a monument of loyalty to be passed down through generations.

From Fellowship in the Association to Loyalty: A Grand Meeting of 600 People

The traditional "Fellowship Days in the Association," organized by Of Hayrat Association every week with an average attendance of 150-200 people, left behind its 99th program. The association management crowned this beautiful togetherness with a massive loyalty night, bringing together all the speakers and sponsors of the 99 programs, alongside the distinguished bureaucrats, academicians, physicians, politicians, and businesspeople of the community.

Martyred Eren Bülbül Was Not Forgotten: Emotional Moments in the Hall

The night started with the reading of the program flow by Assistant Presenter Eslem Tellioğlu. He was presented with a special Plaque of Loyalty and Gratitude for his countless contributions to the association and the medical world. Following the plaque ceremony, the Horon Dance Crew took the stage, fascinating the guests by bringing the endless energy and enthusiasm of the Black Sea region to the hall.

President Enrullah Tellioğlu: "We Are a Big and Massive Family"

Taking the podium under roaring applause, Of Hayrat Association President Enrullah Tellioğlu started his historic speech by thanking all the protocol members and fellow townsmen who attended the night, saying:

"We are a big, we are a massive family. We are a family that loves each other, meets under the same roof, and shares the same table. Today, we are here not just to remember the past, but to claim a legacy and build better tomorrows. And we know very well that loyalty is not forgetting the past; loyalty is protecting the legacy left to us. Loyalty is being able to thank those who worked hard for us yesterday, with the highest voice today.

The people we call Of and Oflular do not just consist of a district of Trabzon today. Oflular are a very important community that has achieved great success in politics, bureaucracy, industry, and science all over Turkey, contributing to the very foundation of this country. We must protect our values and our history that make us who we are. Let us not forget that Of is the place where the first bullet was fired against the Russian occupation in Anatolia, and the torch of independence was lit. May our unity be everlasting under the shadow of this centennial plane tree."

The magnificent night ended with a souvenir photo taken on stage by all participants, panelists, and the association management. Leaving with the promise of loyalty to the past, fellowship for today, and unity for the future, the guests proved once again that Of Hayrat Association is much more than just a non-governmental organization.
